Joshua Duffus has joined one of Europe’s biggest clubs, but had to change his nationality to do so.
The London born forward has swapped Brighton for 10-time French champions Saint-Étienne after just one cup appearance for the Seagulls.
Yet the SOFOOT report that the deal was held up by Duffus’ nationality as he now counts as a non-EU player since Brexit rules came into effect.
That means there wasn’t space for him in ASSE’s squad, until he switched to his mother’s Jamaica, a surprise loophole in the rules.
Speaking at his signing, he said: “I’m joining a very big club, inevitably associated with an incredible stadium in which I can’t wait to start.
“I want to contribute to putting this club back in the elite, where it belongs.
“To do this, I want to bring a healthy aggressiveness to the team on the pitch and above all, I hope to be decisive and score goals.”
