Benfica once again used their social media to hit out at a rival, this time FC Porto.
Porto beat Arouca 3-1 on Friday night to maintain their four-point Primeira Liga lead over Sporting and 10 points over Benfica who have a game in hand.
The game was decided late on with the score 1-1 going into stoppage time at the Dragao.
Seko Fofana then tried to dribble through two defenders in the box and lost control taking a shot, hitting the deck.
The referee deemed that a foul had taken place, awarding a penalty that William Gomes put away before Terem Moffi added another for a 3-1 win.
Not everyone was in agreement with the penalty, with Benfica posting online: “Non-existent penalty, false victory. Two points given away. That’s how it’s easy to stay ahead.”
They weren’t alone though, with Sporting’s Geovany Quenda also posting a message on Instagram.
The Portuguese talent wrote ‘Entreguem’ with some laughing emojis, which loosely translates to ‘given away’.
The problem is more extreme for Benfica, though, with their already faint trophy hopes all but over.
The Eagles exited both domestic cups and after their Champions League defeat to Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho’s first season back at the club looks destined to end trophyless.
