The Belgian Pro League promotion play-offs saw some remarkable scenes provoked by Radja Nainggolan.
The Serie A cult hero is back home playing for Patro Eisden who were trying to return to the top flight.
Facing Beerschot in the play-offs, they lost, but that was hardly the main story.
Nainggolan scored one of the goals but his reaction against his former Antwerp rivals was so provocative that it caused a substitution.
The match was suspended and Patro coach Stijn Stijnen opted to take Nainggolan out of the firing line, but needing experience off the bench he made a strange choice.
On came assistant coach Yassin Gueroui who hasn’t played football since retiring at the end of the 2023/24 season in the fourth tier.
The change didn’t have the desired result, with Beerschot equalising in stoppage time before finding an extra time winner to progress to the semi-finals and leave Patro on the second division for another year.
