Despite Bayern Munich flying high as probably the best team in Europe right now, Kenan Yildiz is happy to be at struggling Juventus.
The German-born Turkish international was in Bayern’s academy from 2012 to 2022 but never made a first team appearance despite his clear talent.
Upon becoming a free agent in ’22, that potential was backed up by Europe’s top teams chasing him, and Juve won the fight.
It proved to be a wise move with Yildiz given first team chances at Juve, but ‘The Old Lady’ aren’t exactly Bayern.
Struggling to put together a title challenge or even make the Champions League since his arrival, you’d forgive the forward for looking at Munich with envy.
Yet he’s now claimed the complete opposite.
“There were many problems with Bayern,” he told Corriere dello Sport.
“I was there for eleven years, but I never felt their trust. There was always someone better than me.
“That’s why it was easy to leave Bayern Munich.”
The theme was similar at international level too, with Yildiz staying with Turkey’s youth teams before debuting for the senior side.
In Germany, I was considered not good enough; they always nominated other players,” he explained.
“That’s why I chose the Turkish national team.”
