Facing the third best team in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich could’ve been expecting a banana skin, but instead thumped Hoffenheim 5-1.
The result comes after a draw and defeat which has given Borussia Dortmund a chance of creating a title race when the two teams face off on February 28th.
However, the chances of another team winning the Bundesliga are always low, despite Bayer Leverkusen disrupting an 11-year run during the 2023/24 season.
Bayern’s huge spending compared to the rest of the league is often cited as a reason for their dominance, but CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen thinks their rivals only have themselves to blame.
“FC Bayern is not the problem here. We are part of the solution,” he argued to BILD about his side’s superior finances.
“Through our successes nationally and especially internationally, with our attractiveness to foreign stars like Harry Kane or Michael Olise, we are the driving force of the Bundesliga.
“FC Bayern generates more than 30 percent of the Bundesliga’s reach abroad, but receives significantly less than half of that in distributions.
“We stand by the principle of solidarity; we are team players.”
He continued: “Those who blame us should complain less and instead do everything to make their own club and their own players more visible internationally.
“More ambition in international competitions is needed: It would be very valuable for the Bundesliga if more clubs in Europe competed with the clear aim of reaching at least the quarter-finals – not just in the Champions League.”
