Barcelona‘s attempts to end the season on a high are being frustrated by a number of internal issues.
Following a sensational press conference where Frenkie de Jong called journalists ‘liars’ and told them to be ‘ashamed’ manager Xavi is trying to take control of the situation.
According to El Chiringuito, the soon-to-depart manager has forced all members of staff to hand over their phones for their WhatsApp history to be checked.
He also reportedly phoned editors of multiple outlets to try and find the source of the leaks.
Speaking in his most recent press conference, Xavi said: “Every footballer or every person who is at Barça feels injustice because there are a lot of lies in the media.”
Things have been further complicated for the club with one of Xavi’s potential replacements, Rafa Marquez, under investigation.
The Barcelona B coach has been referred to the club’s compliance department over betting advertisements.
The former defender continues to promote a Mexican betting company on social media, despite the club asking him to stop.
Marquez is seen as a potential replacement for Xavi, at least in the short term, and the issues has cast doubts over his integrity, according to Mundo Deportivo.
