The row between Barcelona and Marc Andre ter Stegen has taken a dramatic twist with the club captain refusing to sign off a medical report on his back injury.
As such, Mundo Deportivo report that the LaLiga side have opened disciplinary proceedings against the German goalkeeper which could result in a sanction.
Ter Stegen’s status at Barca has been in doubt since the start of 2025 when he suffered an ACL injury and the previously retired Wojciech Szczęsny was signed on a short term deal.
Szczęsny went on to excel and earn a two-year contract, while Joan García also joined in goal, suggesting Ter Stegen‘s time at the club was over.
However, the German No.1 opted to stay, before undergoing back surgery.
The dispute is now over how long he will be out of action, with Ter Stegen suggesting three months in a social media statement.
Barca are said to have been angered by that announcement, as five months or more would mean they could remove 80% of his salary from the LaLiga accounting books allowing the registration of other players.
However, it’s now becoming public that Ter Stegen has refused to give his consent to a club report on his injury which was meant to be sent to the LaLiga Medical Committee.
That means it cannot be shared, and the situation is now at an impasse, with Barca opening disciplinary proceedings against their long-time captain.
