Mateu Alemany has had to put out an almighty fire at Atletico Madrid.
The former Barcelona, Aston Villa and Valencia director rocked up at Atleti in October and his first transfer window hasn’t gone to plan.
Four players have left with zero incomings, and he’s faced some uncharacteristic complaints from head coach Diego Simeone.
On top of that, the media have played up a rift between the pair which even president Enrique Cerezo has been forced to comment on.
Giving his take ahead of another poor showing from Atleti against Bodo/Glimt, losing 2-1 in the Champions League, Alemany said: “We both want the best, the best possible squad to achieve our objectives.
“My job is to give the coach the best possible players, the highest level of performance within his vision and needs.
“From there, we’re all in the same boat and share the same vision. There are no nuances that have been exaggerated.
“Our day-to-day approach and our understanding of what we need and what we want are absolutely identical.”
