The Madrid derby saw a 10-minute stoppage after Atletico Madrid fans threw numerous objects at their ex-goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Real Madrid had just taken a 1-0 lead through a deflected Eder Militao goal in the 66th minute when Courtois turned to the home end to taunt his old supporters.
His reaction was received terribly, and objects like lighters and plastic bags were thrown at him.
One lighter was presented to referee Mateo Busquets who paused the game as a result.
Atleti‘s players and head coach Diego Simeone then went to plead with the supporters.
The stadium announcer then said: “The match has been suspended for 10 minutes due to the throwing of various objects. If this is not stopped, it will be permanent.”
After 15 minutes the match was able to resume, and in stoppage time Angel Correra equalised for a 1-1 draw.
