Antonio Conte’s latest Napoli rant has been seen as an exit call by the bookies, but his club aren’t so sure.
The reigning five-time Serie A winner lost again at the weekend, 2-0 to Bologna, making it five defeats overall as he again falters in the Champions League.
Speaking after the latest slip-up, he went after his entire club instead of calling out individuals.
“I’m worried, there’s not much to say” he began, before saying a lot.
“If you lose five games, it means something isn’t going right. Something has to be done, because I don’t want to be with someone who dies.
“I’m the first one to take responsibility. I don’t see any chemistry, but everyone is thinking about their own problem.
“Heart transplants aren’t possible. Each of us has to rediscover our spirit, our heart, our determination.
“Things can be done, but we have to see how they’re done. It’s one thing to do your homework, it’s another to play in a team with very high expectations.
“Everyone is thinking about themselves, I’ve seen this before, so I want to speak kindly to the club. We mustn’t forget that after their third Scudetto, Napoli finished tenth, but I don’t think that taught us much.
“Sometimes you think that the ugly duckling becomes a swan overnight. Last year we did something extraordinary and of absolute value, now we’re continuing to work, but we have to ask ourselves how: whether there’s the right enthusiasm and desire, or whether we’re basking in past victories and thinking we’re the best.”
Following the comments, Conte shot up in the odds for the next Serie A manager to leave their club.
However, despite all of that, Napoli are trying to address the issue, with numerous reports claiming Conte has their full support.
