If France lose their Euro 2024 opener to Austria, it won’t be due to a lack of research.
The 2018 World Cup winners open their campaign against Ralf Rangnick’s side on June 17 in Dusseldorf, their first of two must-win games in a group that also contains the Netherlands.
Despite France’s status as one of the tournament’s favourites, it’s still very much a group of death and the tiniest slip-up could be punished.
With that in mind, Antoine Griezmann has revealed a rather bizarre preparation technique that Didier Deschamps has been using.
“Every time we go to play a team, during meals, on TV, we have images of the team we are going to play,” he said. “For ten days, we ate with the Austrians.
“I like to watch, especially when I ask myself questions, like during my first period against Luxembourg. I didn’t give enough balls to Randal (Kolo Muani) or Marcus (Thuram). I like to watch other teams’ games if I can steal two of three things…”
