Bordeaux’s Gerard Lopez hell looks set to continue with the current owner rejecting an offer from a surprise source.
It’s been reported that Bayern Munich legend Oliver Kahn made a bid to buy the faltering French giants.
However, Lopez rejected the offer due to a lack of ‘proof of funds’.
Lopez oversaw the traditional side’s administrative relegation to the fourth tier of French football due to financial issues and remains a hugely unpopular figure and a constant target of protests.
Kahn, meanwhile, made the takeover approach on behalf of French businessman Jacques-Henri Eyraud.
Speaking previously about going into football ownership, the Bayern legend and former club CEO said: “Investing in football is different to investing in a screw manufacturer.
“Football is about culture, identity, community. If everything fits together, I can imagine it very well,”
Bordeuax’s hopes of instant promotion took a knock early season, but recent form, inspired by surprise signing Andy Carroll, has them just two points off leaders Saint-Malo, with only one team promoted from the third tier.
