It’s all going wrong very quickly for Andre Villas-Boas at FC Porto.
The former coach became the club’s new president in the summer, replacing Pinto da Costa who’d been at the helm for 42 years.
After an unpleasant election campaign, Villas-Boas had to deal with a number of issues including the arrest and imprisonment of Super Dragões ultra leader Fernando Madureira.
Alongside financial problems, there were also clashes with former coach Sérgio Conceição who was replaced by his assistant Vitor Bruno in controversial circumstances.
Vitor Bruno started OK, but he’s now on a three-game losing streak, following up a 4-1 Clássico loss to Benfica by getting knocked out of the Taca de Portugal by Moreirense.
During the match Super Dragões members held up banners reading “expel us all” and “leave monkey” in reference to Villas-Boas, and things then boiled over post-match.
Fans waited outside Moreirense’s stadium in the rain to protest and when Villas-Boas went out to confront them, he was quickly left regretting his decision and heading back to the car.
Shouts of ‘traitor’ and ‘resign’ were heard, as were songs in favour of Da Costa.
Vitor Bruno didn’t confront the fans, but the next day he was defended from them. The head coach arrived at the club’s Olival training ground the following morning and was flanked by security.
