Sérgio Conceição has put himself in hot water with an unfortunate comment about transfer target João Félix.
Chelsea’s Félix is strongly linked with AC Milan with Gazzetta dello Sport claiming all parties are keen for his agent Jorge Mendes to iron out a loan deal with a €35million buy option in the summer.
It’s claimed that the fourth most expensive player in the world is Conceição’s top target to strengthen Milan, so naturally he was asked about him in his latest press conference.
However, the framing of the question got the head coach in trouble, as a reporter said: “I wanted to ask about a player who had once slept in the same room as your son Rodrigo…”
The reporter was referring to Rodrigo Conceição rooming with Felix as a youth player at Porto, but the question caused some confusion for Conceição Snr who had the room laughing.
“My son sleeping with a man… Be careful, he’s a real man,” Conceição said with a laugh as the room joined in.
The comments were obviously meant as a joke, but haven’t gone down well in the media and online, with various outlets labelling them homophobic.
