David Pagou vs Marc Brys – the biggest showdown of AFCON.

Pagou was appointed by the Cameroon football association president Samuel Eto’o pre-tournament, despite the country’s ministry of sport maintaining that Marc Brys is the national team coach.

Both parties submitted their own squads for the tournament, but Eto’o and Pagou’s won out, and Cameroon have since qualified for the AFCON knockouts.

They haven’t been entirely convincing, but have got the job done, and now Pagou has broken his silence on Brys.

“A football team consists of the association president and their coach. We talk a lot,” he said.

“Samuel Eto’o helps me enormously, and we understand each other well. That’s been the case with all the teams I’ve coached.

“The association president must always be my biggest supporter. I want him to always be on my side.

“If someone with Samuel Eto’o’s career is your president, who can argue with him? He’s been a tremendous support to me, both on and off the pitch.”

Brys is still yet to be officially fired, and was asked if he would resign in his most recent interview.

“It’s certainly crossed my mind, but I can’t accept someone walking all over me. It’s not in my nature,” the Belgian said.

“I feel bad for the staff, the players, and a little bit for myself too, but I’m not going to mourn it.”
