RB Leipzig’s search for a new head coach is still rumbling on two months after parting ways with Marco Rose.
The controversial Bundesliga side made the painful choice to cut ties with local hero Rose at the end of March as their European hopes faded away.
Assistant Zsolt Lőw stepped in on an interim basis with a big reputation, but soon made it clear he wasn’t sticking around.
Leipzig’s attentions then turned to German duo Sebastian Hoeneß of Stuttgart and free agent and former Red Bull employee Roger Schmidt.
However, according to Kicker that pair both said no as Champions League football drifted away.
With the season at an end the need for a new coach became more dire, and according to Sky Germany Oliver Glasner and Cesc Fabregas were both interested.
Fabregas himself had held multiple talks with Red Bull’s global head of soccer, Jurgen Klopp, but Como wouldn’t let him go, as was the same for Crystal Palace and Glasner.
Amid those rejections Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl was also approached but had no interest, as per Sport1.
Now it seems that Leipzig are down to St Pauli’s Alexander Blessin and recently sacked Werder Bremen coach Ole Werner, while Copenhagen’s Jacob Neestrup is an option from abroad.
But if the rejections keep coming, the rest of the Bundesliga will certainly be enjoying the brakes being put on the Red Bull project.
