Should Inter Milan win the Champions League against PSG on Saturday night, Hakan Çalhanoglu will likely claim a piece of history.
The Turkish midfielder lost his other final appearance, in 2023 against Manchester City, but he’s not the only one from his country to do so.
Three other Turks have played in and lost a Champions League final – Yildiray Baştürk (Leverkusen, 2002), Hamit Altintop (Bayern, 2010) and Nuri Şahin (Dortmund, 2013).
Only two Turks have won the Champions League – Arda Güler of Real Madrid in 2024 and Arda Turan of Barcelona – however on both occasions neither played a single minute.
That means that Çalhanoglu could well achieve an impressive first for his country as he’ll almost certainly start against PSG.
However, there are six other countries that could also boost a winner and player who featured for the first time on Saturday.
They are Albania (Kristjan Asllani), Armenia (Henrikh Mkhitaryan), Iran (Mehdi Taremi), Morocco (Achraf Hakimi), Ecuador (Willian Pacho) and South Korea (Kang-in Lee).
