We’ve all heard of tennis balls and flares disrupting football matches, but in the Norwegian league, Rosenborg and Lillestrom fans kept things original.
A match between the two sides in the Eliteserien was ultimately suspended as fans bombarded the pitch with fish cakes.
The protest was over the use of VAR, with fans desperate to outlaw the video technology, following their neighbours in Sweden where it was never implemented.
The Eliteserien has used VAR since October 2021, and away Lillestrom fans also unfurled a banner which read: “We will never give up VAR must disappear!”
The Norwegian league is at its halfway point, and the game will now have to be rescheduled with the score 0-0.
