Ronald Koeman is asking for more from his captain Virgil van Dijk.
The Netherlands and Liverpool captain has long been praised for his cool and calm defending technique, but Koeman has admitted he’s occasionally left wanting more.
Speaking before a World Cup qualifier against Finland, he said: “You have to chase Virgil sometimes, that was the case ten years ago and it still is.
“He can contribute so much more to our build-up. The game against Malta was another example of that.
“If I take three steps, I cover three meters. If Virgil takes three steps, he immediately covers ten.
“He has that ability, but ten years ago, as a coach, I was busy encouraging him to do that, and now I still have to occasionally.”
