Two Valencia fans who had their passports confiscated over a Peter Lim banner have now been allowed to leave Singapore.
The married couple were in the country for their honeymoon when Dani Cuesta was photographed by his wife Mireia Saez with a ‘Lim go home’ banner, one regularly used by fans of the LaLiga side to condemn their hugely unpopular owner.
Shockingly, though, that was just the start of the story.
One of the locations where Cuesta held the banner was believed to be owned by Lim, but it was in fact where he lives.
And with very strict laws against public protest, the couple had their passports confiscated by local police, and were unable to continue their honeymoon to Bali.
A police statement on Tuesday said a ‘severe warning’ had been given for “participating in a public gathering without permission and for putting up posters.”
It was added that the couple have now left Singapore.
Lim is massively unpopular at Valencia with the club currently 18th in LaLiga and having to rely heavily on their academy in recent years due to underinvestment.
Responding to the ordeal on social media, Cuesta wrote: “Valencianistas, thank you to each and every one of you for the support shown during these difficult days.
“I need time to recover from the damage I have done to do to very important people in my life, I hope you understand, that I must focus on the most important thing.
“Lastly, if anyone thought that this club was dead, they only have to see how people have reacted to this abuse of power and this huge injustice that we have gone through, despite always recognising that it was only ME who was wrong.”
