Atletico Madrid’s El Paseo de los Jugadores Centenarios will be no more after the club’s Social Commission voted to change the controversial project.
The ‘walk of centurions‘ has long been controversial with players who have disparaged the club – namely Thibaut Courtois and Joao Felix – seeing their plaques constantly vandalised.
Furthermore, players with huge importance in the club’s history like Radamel Falcao and Luis Suarez don’t qualify as they haven’t reached 100 games.
The display on the concourse outside the ground will now become the ‘walk of legends’ and all Atelti members will be allowed to vote on who appears.
Members will vote on five players from four different time periods in the club’s history, while the likes of Courtois and Felix will obviously be ineligible, as will current players.
