Girona’s David Lopez is facing an awkward week after the Spanish Technical Committee of Referees [CTA] denied his statements.
Girona beat Almeria 5-2 to head to the top of the LaLiga table, but Lopez didn’t have the best evening, first getting a booking he disagreed with.
Then, to start the second half, he caused a delay when referee Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias forced him to remove a bracelet.
Speaking after the event, Lopez said: “You are disrespected, insulted. You can’t work like this. Bad manners and arrogance cannot be accepted.
“All the players in the First Division know him. You can always say one word above another, but don’t insult or disrespect.”
The CTA announced that they would listen back to the audio from the match, and have now released a statement.
It read: “Once the CTA has listened to the complete audios of the Girona-Almeria match, recorded as indicated in the VAR protocol, it wishes to inform that the referee of the match, Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias, at no time insults or disrespects the player number 5 of Girona, David López.
“He only warns him that if he continues with this behavior he will be forced to show him the second yellow card.”
