Sevilla’s technical secretary José Ignacio Navarro has made it clear Sergio Ramos won’t be playing for the club.
Ramos is in a period of exclusivity to buy his former side after shareholders accepted a €450million offer for the debt-ridden club.
LaLiga rules prevent an owner from playing for a club, but with the process expected to take months, Ramos reportedly offered his services to a side struggling in defence.
However, it’s now been confirmed that won’t be possible.
“As of today, Sergio Ramos is not a reality,” Navarro said on DAZN.
“He’s not a player who is training and he can’t be available to [head coach] Almeyda, so there’s not much point in considering that.
“It’s a closed issue. There’s been a lot of talk about it this week and in previous weeks.
“We’re sticking to the players we have available right now, plus those from Sevilla Atlético, and I don’t know what other options might be available.”
Other reports claim that Ramos can’t play due to the club’s finances.
Despite being willing to play for free, LaLiga rules state players must be paid a minimum wage of €195,000 per-year, which would take Sevilla over the league’s salary cap.
