Having been the main headline at Sevilla all season, Sergio Ramos has finally spoken about his proposed takeover of the club.
Ramos has been leading a consortium attempting to buy his local side amid financial distress.
A €450million bid was approved by shareholders in January, offering Ramos and his Five Eleven Capital group an exclusivity period to assess the club’s accounts.
A previous American group backed out when seeing how dire things were, but Ramos and Co have ploughed ahead, and have also met with leading shareholders.
A relegation clause has been placed in the deal given Sevilla’s current struggles, which means an eventual takeover won’t go through until the season has finished, even in the second division.
Nevertheless, Ramos is positive.
Ramos’ Sevilla takeover
“I’m doing wonderfully. I’m spending a lot of time with my family and enjoying myself,” he said at a bullfighting event.
“I think in a few months, weeks, there will be news, and hopefully it will be what we all want. Things are going well.”
Ramos, now 40,hasn’t played football since December, but is yet to announce his retirement.
Earlier reports claimed he even offered his services to Sevilla, but with the club’s finances so bad, he’d have to play for free, which would still be a stretch.
