Teemu Pukki has definitely had better weeks.
The former Schalke, Celtic and Norwich man was leading his boyhood club HJK Helsinki in an attempt to return to European action when it all went horribly wrong.
The Finnish outfit were facing lesser ranked Faroe Islands side NSI in the Conference League and got hammered 4-0 away in the first leg of their qualification match.
There was worse to come for Pukki and the players whose official club website put together a brutal match report entitled Collapse in the Faroe Islands.
In it HJK wrote: “NSÍ Runavík completely crushed HJK in the opening match of the Conference League qualifiers.
“The club experienced one of the harshest defeats in its Euro history, as the Faroese side won a well-deserved 4–0 (2–0) victory over the club.
“A complete nightmare, if you can call a football match that. Practically every cross or special situation into our box was really dangerous.
“There was nothing about it that we didn’t know beforehand, but today, unfortunately, we just didn’t rise to the level required by the game in those moments.
“The saddest part of the result is that Runavík could have scored more than four goals with better finishing.
“The home team had 18 shots, 10 of which were on target. Runavík were awarded the ball for offside twice, and one through ball was also missed. HJK, on the other hand, had very few real scoring opportunities.”
Ouch.
