We’re only four days into 2026 and Bayern Munich’s press officer is already in a tailspin.
As is customary the Bundesliga champions made their annual trips to a number of different fan groups, and Lennart Karl was a little too honest at one of them.
The 17-year-old visited FC Bayern Munich Fan Club Burgsinn 1980 in his home region of Lower Franconia and the meetings typically get very honest.
Speaking to around 140 supporters, Karl was asked who his dream club is aside from Bayern, and didn’t mince his words.
“I hope this stays between us,” Karl began with a wink, and then elaborated: “FC Bayern is a very big club. It’s a dream to play there.
“But at some point, I definitely want to go to Real Madrid. That’s my dream club – but this stays between us.”
Unfortunately for Karl, it hasn’t and neither has the fact that he had trials with Madrid aged just 10.
Earlier in December, German journalist Sebastian Leisgang revealed on the podcast Und nun zum Sport that a deal with Madrid fell through over the use of intermediaries.
“The deal with Real Madrid fell through,” he recalled.
“His father told me he was very happy with how it turned out, as he felt it wasn’t really about his son, but rather about negotiating contracts with large consulting firms.
“That’s why it failed, and in retrospect, the family doesn’t regret not signing with Madrid.”
