Real Madrid will be making up for lost time with Dani Carvajal after his horror injury against Villarreal.
The Spain defender collided with Yeremi when clearing a ball and was heard screaming above the sound of the crowd in very distressing scenes.
It’s now been confirmed that he has suffered two ligament tears and a further tendon tear in his knee.
With Carvajal set to be sidelined for a very long time, the club have now announced that they’ve triggered a year extension in his contract.
It had earlier appeared that Carvajal could be on his way, particularly with Madrid making moves for Trent Alexander-Arnold, however, he’ll now be able to make up for missing most of the 2024/25 season.
Confirming the injury, Real Madrid said: “Following tests carried out on our player Dani Carvajal by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, a rupture of the external collateral ligament and a rupture of the popliteal tendon in his right leg.
“He will undergo surgery in the coming days.”
