Raheem Sterling’s first minutes for Feyenoord have already split opinion.
The former England regular joined the Eredivisie side for free from Chelsea earlier this month and has now made it on the pitch during a 2-1 win over Telstar.
It was Sterling’s first game since May 2025 when he was on loan at Arsenal, and he understandably looked a bit off the pace.
But in Theo Janssen’s eyes, there’s plenty to be positive about if Sterling can re-discover his famous pace and dribbling skills.
“He needs time to even get match-fit,” the pundit said on Rondo. “Once that boy is fit, the competition is over.”
Van der Vaart not so keen on Raheem Sterling
However, former Dutch regular Rafael van der Vaart had some huge words of caution if his pace doesn’t return.
“I’ve always felt that way about him. He has speed, but if that goes away, he can’t keep up at Kozakken Boys either,” he said brutally referencing a third-tier side.
“That sounds a bit harsh, but it’s the truth. He’s been a good player. But he really needs his speed.”
