PSG sent Barcelona into a tailspin in 2017 with the world-record purchase of Neymar, and they never quite recovered.
Well, it appears that PSG aren’t quite done ruining Barcelona‘s summers, amid reports that they’re going all out for Joan Laporta’s top target – Nico Williams.
The Athletic Bilbao winger is one of the hottest properties on the market after his Copa del Rey-winning heroics and Man of the Match display for Spain in the Euro 2024 final against England.
Due to his close friendship with Lamine Yamal, Williams has been solidly linked with Barcelona, and even President Joan Laporta has talked up the signing on multiple occasions.
Recently he said: “I like Nico, a lot. I can say that financially we can make it happen. It’s the result of work that has been done over all these years to reach this point. We could, of course, face a signing of this level.”
However, it appears that Laporta isn’t quite right, with Williams’ reported €60m release clause so far untouched.
That might not last for long, though, with RMC Sport now claiming that PSG are trying to reach an agreement with Williams as their replacement for Kylian Mbappe.
They claim that Barca are currently ahead of the curve when it comes to working on a deal, but that could quickly change given PSG’s far superior finances.
