Even three points aren’t good enough for AC Milan’s Paulo Fonseca.
The Italian giants are well off track in Serie A, but things are looking far better in the Champions League where Milan are just a point off the top eight and qualification for the last 16.
They boosted their chances with a 2-1 win over Red Star on Wednesday night, meaning that at worst they’ll be in the play-offs for the next round.
However, Fonseca, who’s in his first season at the club after a previous stint with Roma, wasn’t a happy man, and tore his players a new one.
“I work every day to do well, but I don’t know if everyone here can say the same,” the Portuguese began.
“What happened on the pitch is unacceptable and cannot be repeated. The result, on its own, is not enough.
“I have to talk to the team. This is not about tactics or technique, but something deeper. It’s like a roller coaster: today we’re doing well, tomorrow I don’t know. It’s impressive.
“If I have to call on the boys from Primavera or Milan Futuro (the reserve team that competes in Serie C), I will do it.”
On the pitch, Tammy Abraham scored a late winner after Rafa Leao’s opener was cancelled out by Nemanja Radonjic.
Despite Fonseca’s complaints, Milan had 20 shots on target to Red Star’s nine, and a possession figure of 51%.
The xG figures were also favourable at 2.14 vs. 0.53, but they were playing at home against a side who have just three points from a possible 18.
