Pierre Sage has informed RC Lens’ management that he won’t continue with the club next season.
RMC Sport have broken the news that the Coupe de France winner told the club of his decision and he’s now focusing on his next job.
Sage had already left his future open in an interview with RMC just days earlier.
And his call to quit comes amid interest and a reported offer from Crystal Palace.
Yet RMC add that his future is still open, with Liverpool also checking in on Sage as a replacement for Arne Slot.
Speaking about his future last week, Sage said: “The idea is obviously to stay and continue this great project, but I must admit that there are quite a few things changing and questions are being raised, but overall, we’re still leaning heavily towards Lens.”
Sage went on to hint that he’d already had offers, and even admitted he’d be open to coaching a side not in the Champions League.
Returning to the competition with Lens, he said: “I did quite well this year, and perhaps I also want to leave that feeling and not disappoint.
“I also know that leaving would be a disappointment for some people; it’s a really mixed feeling.
“I’m still very attached to the people at this club. That’s why I’m also asking myself a lot of questions.”
Manager vacancies across Europe
Palace themselves are without a coach after FA Cup and Conference League-winner Oliver Glasner decided to quit.
The Eagles went in for Andoni Iraola, but he now looks set to sign for Liverpool, with dominoes falling all over Europe.
A side not mentioned could also come into the fold, with AC Milan’s search for a Max Allegri replacement going far and wide.
Premier League side Fulham could also be an option after parting ways with Marco Silva.
