Despite all roads at Benfica appearing to lead to Marco Silva, Rui Costa still has other ideas.
The latest update from A Bola in Portugal claims that president Costa has taken it upon himself to try and get Ruben Amorim to change his mind on a return to Estadio da Luz.
Despite his coaching successes at Sporting, ending their 19-year league title drought, Amorim remains a Benfica legend.
An academy product and former midfielder, Costa sees Amorim as an ideal target, particularly with his stock so low after a disastrous Manchester United stint.
Yet despite the president’s work, Silva still looks by far the most likely choice.
He has one game to go at Fulham, and Jorge Mendes has already been indirectly working on a deal with his people.
On top of that, Silva is willing to take a salary cut of almost half the €7.5million he earns in West London to return to Portugal and European football.
