The Ministry of the Interior for Marseille has imposed a strict total ban on Ajax fans coming to their city.
The two sides will face off in the Champions League on Tuesday, having seen several scenes of violence and arrests during a previous meeting in 2022.
The prefecture of the Bouches-du-Rhone region had already issued a decree on September 12 prohibiting Ajax supporters from public roads in Marseille and access to the Velodrome stadium.
Fans of the Dutch club have now been prohibited from even travelling in the first place.
A statement signed by the Minister of the Interior prohibits any “Individual or collective travel, by any means, of any person claiming to be an Ajax Amsterdam supporter between French road, rail, port and airport border points and the municipality of Marseille.
“Ajax Amsterdam’s travels are very frequently a source of public order disturbances due to the violent behaviour of certain supporters.
“Rivalries between supporters of the two clubs have been marked by animosity for many years.”
OM added that: “The seats initially reserved for the arrival of opposing supporters are now available for purchase by Olympique supporters.”
