Lyon‘s Rayan Cherki is a wanted man thanks to his continued impressive form, but it’s not just clubs that are after him, but countries too.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder carried his status as Lyon’s best player from the 2023/24 campaign and became France’s best at the Olympics, and he’s maintained that level this term.
So impressive has Cherki been, that RMC Sport claim that both Liverpool coach Arne Slot and his seniors are ‘unanimous’ about the player’s qualities and are ‘intensifying contacts’ over a move.
That deal could come as soon as January with Lyon needing to raise €100million before the end of the season to cancel out their administrative relegation. Cherki is by far their most valuable asset, with hopes of a €55m return due to a newly signed contract.
However, it’s not just Liverpool that rate him. The youngster has been so good for France’s junior side that other countries are looking to pounce on his lack of a senior call-up.
Cherki is eligible to play for both Italy and Algeria through his parents, and the former re-upped their efforts after Didier Deschamps snubbed him from France’s November Nations League fixtures.
Algeria too are pushing for the player, who could well have some big decisions to make after a failed transfer to Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
