Luka Modric and Real Madrid have decided to part ways at the end of the current season.
Relevo report that being left on the bench for Madrid’s 3-1 Champions League win over Leipzig was the final straw for the Croatian.
Modric’s game time has dwindled this season, and despite Carlo Ancelotti’s regular public apologies to the 38-year-old, enough is now enough.
Talks over a contract extension are now over, and Modric will become a free agent.
Linked to MLS side Inter Miami and also the Saudi Pro League, Modric hasn’t decided what to do with his future.
Madrid, though, have begun preparations for his farewell at the end of the season, saying goodbye to a footballing icon after 12 years and five Champions League titles.
Attention will then turn to his last hurrah with Croatia at Euro 2024, and retirement could well follow.
