It turns out that Wolves fans certainly didn’t see the best of Vitinha in his season-long loan.
The Portuguese midfielder rocked up at Molineux in 2020 on loan from Porto, but didn’t make much of an impression.
Returning to Porto the following season, he’d certainly learned a lot, and played his part in a double before PSG made their move, signing the youngster for €41million.
This season he was exceptional, and even Luis Enrique anointed him their unofficial Player of the Season.
“For me, he is the player of the season, without a doubt,” the Spaniard said. “Combining his quality on the ball, his aggression and his ability to defend, he was without a doubt the best. He was at a very high level.”
Now expected to shine for Portugal at Euro 2024, Martinez is just as impressed after another MOTM display, this time in a 4-2 win over Finland.
Bruno Fernandes stole the headlines with two goals, but once again a coach was left stunned by Vitinha.
“He’s the best Vitinha I’ve seen with the Seleção,” he said. “He played at the level we saw in the Champions League, he deservedly got into the team of the season.
“He controlled the match and made impeccable decisions, I think we saw a new Vitinha in the national team.”
