Luis Enrique wasn’t entertaining mind games in his final press conference before the Champions League final.
The PSG coach was speaking ahead of what could be back-to-back European crowns should they down Arsenal, but their rivals are also confident.
After winning the Premier League, Mikel Arteta was caught making a speech at a private event in MayFair where he said: “On Saturday, we are going to be champions of Europe.”
Arteta is said to have been very annoyed about the leaked comment, but at least Luis Enrique didn’t pick it up.
When he was asked if it adds motivation, he responded: “There is no greater motivation than playing in the Champions League final.
“The rest doesn’t matter. We need to stay focused on what’s positive for my team and show our best level tomorrow.
“We’ve had time to analyze our opponent, we’ve played against them for the last two years.
“There are still things to improve, both in defense and attack. Knowing how to manage a final is always different.
“You have to take advantage of these kinds of matches, because you never know when you’ll play these kinds of matches again.”
Then complimenting his countryman Arteta, he added: “I’m not surprised to see them win the Premier League, they deserved it this year, they were the most consistent and they deserve it.
“This will be their seventh year with Arteta and you can clearly see what kind of team he has built.”
PSG captain Marquinhos also spoke during the conference, and gave some thoughts on Arsenal’s set piece superiority against their smaller team.
“We know how difficult it is to play against this Arsenal team, that they are strong on set pieces,” he said.
“You have to be ready for anything. Liverpool, Bayern… All the teams that have given us trouble, we have been able to adapt and rise to the occasion.
“In one match, in a final, you can’t know, but the details, knowing how to defend, attack, manage set pieces… We are prepared for all these details.”
And on his team, he added: “The danger comes from everywhere, that’s the strength of our team.
“We have forwards who can play in midfield, know how to defend, have good understanding, are mobile… That’s the team Luis Enrique has built. That’s why it’s not just the starters, everyone has an impact.
“We have a complete team. Ousmane and Kvara are having an incredible season, we need these leaders to step up in decisive moments like tomorrow.
“We’re lucky to have them with us, they give their all. I say this on behalf of all the fans too, when they see them play.
“They give everything and for that these two players deserve to be so exposed and highlighted.”
