Liverpool fans hoping to catch a glimpse of Jeremy Jacquet playing for Rennes are likely to be disappointed after an injury update.
The French centre back signed for the Reds in January ahead of a summer move for a whopping €72million.
Yet just days later, he picked up a heavy injury while playing for Stade Rennes against Lens, dislocating his shoulder.
Leading French outlet Ouest France now report that he will undergo surgery with pain from the injury not improving.
Jacquet is likely to be out for ‘several weeks’ and the chances of him appearing before the final Ligue 1 game of the season on May 16th are ‘extremely slim’.
Liverpool were reportedly in contact with the player and Rennes medical staff, leaving the final decision to them on which course of action to take.
The news is also clearly a blow to the 20-year-old himself, who was hoping to finish off a fine season by helping Rennes claim a European spot for next season.
