The vice president of Newell’s Old Boys has said the club are eyeing a move for Lionel Messi next year.
Messi never played for the Newell’s first team, leaving for Barcelona in 2000 aged just 13.
Yet the Argentina captain remains linked to the club, spending his time off at his home in Rosario where Newell’s are located.
Discussing the No.10, Juan Manuel Medina told Channel TN: “We are working to have Leo play for Newell’s in the first half of 2027.
“The possibility of signing Messi as early as next year remains uncertain. For now, there’s nothing more than that.
“It’s a project that goes beyond Newell’s. It’s a project for the city of Rosario, for the province, and for Argentine football.”
It’s worth noting that Messi’s recent contract extension at Inter Miami ties him to the club until 2028.
