Lamine Yamal’s father has passionately defended his son after an unsavoury story about his 18th birthday celebrations hit the headlines.
The Barcelona starlet is accused of hiring performers with dwarfism for his party, an act which has been condemned by multiple disability charities.
Lamine took the headlines in a different way days later, official signing his new contract until 2031 and taking Lionel Messi’s No.10 shirt.
His father, Mounir Nasraoui, was present for the event, and later talked to the media about the birthday story.
“I don’t listen to criticism, I listen to my own views,” he said. “And mine are that my son is doing well, that’s all.
“Not envy. It’s that people, instead of seeing what’s close to them, look at what’s far away in others, and then they’ll die of envy. That’s their problem.
“He’s a young boy. People should understand that he’s a kid who just turned 18 and also has the right to enjoy life a little.
“We all understand that, he’s a professional athlete, whatever you want, but he’s also a child like any other. He’s his age, he has his friends, his parents are well looked after, thank God for everything.
“And we should all be proud of having a national player here in Spain. Because I remember, I haven’t seen a number 10 here in Spain, in big teams. And we should be proud of having a national number 10 who represents the number 10 of his team and the greatness of his national team.
“I’ve watched football since I was little and I’ve never seen a national player like Lamine Yamal. What we should all do, do like this, thank you Lamine Yamal, for the better or may God bless you, son.”
Asked to respond to the Minister of Equality’s statements about the party, he added: Mounir decided not to respond to the Minister of Equality, saying, “I’m neither involved in politics nor in it, sorry.
“He’s trying to be someone for everyone, not just for himself. Because if he were like other people, I’ve seen many cases, and my son isn’t that kind of person.
“We should all be proud, and the people who speak badly of my son should take a good look at their backs and that’s it. And that’s it, we’re not saying anything bad, nor has my son done anything wrong.
“Otherwise, I would be the first as a father to tell him, to grab him by the ears and tell Lamine ‘this isn’t done, son,’ but my son hasn’t done anything. He hasn’t done anything.
