Having relegated SM Caen from France’s professional leagues for the first time since 1984, there isn’t much remorse from Kylian Mbappe’s family.
The Real Madrid star and his family took control of the Ligue 2 side in September last year but have achieved an historical low in their first season.
Not only has Mbappe and his mother and agent Fayza Lamari been criticised by the fans, but even the players too have hit out at the instability.
Yet in her first interview since Caen’s relegation to the National 1 was confirmed, Lamari feels hard done by.
“I was angry at certain moments during the season because when people gratuitously attack the president, when they gratuitously attack me personally, they just forget to say why we came and that it’s our personal money,” she said.
“Posters where I was insulted, where the president was insulted.
“I remember humbly telling Kylian that they didn’t deserve us and that you had to know when to leave when you weren’t wanted.
“He didn’t want to, he didn’t want to. He convinced me otherwise.
“And today, it would be dishonest to leave, because we also came here for these values.
“So, I prefer to stay positive and tell myself that, once again, I’m a former athlete, it’s perhaps a blessing in disguise.”
Defending their ownership model further, she added: “It was Kylian’s personal money that he invested.
“There weren’t fifteen people or companies willing to buy Stade Malherbe.
“We did it as a challenge, because the story was good for us. We had several offers. We were presented with three clubs, and naturally, we chose Stade Malherbe.”
