After constant protests and relegation to the third tier, Kylian Mbappe finally has some good headlines at SM Caen.
The Real Madrid superstar took over the team alongside his mother and agent Fayza Lamari last summer and they were instantly met with opposition as players began complaining about a lack of clarity and signings.
Things got worse when Caen were relegated out of France’s top two tiers, but now with their owners settled, their new head coach, Maxime D’Ornano, is putting up a defence.
Talking about his decision to step in at a time of need with the traditional side, he said: “I haven’t met him yet, but it’s true that when the owner is a famous football player, it makes you want to join.
“We’re setting foot in a place where the owner knows what he’s doing because he knows all the ins and outs of a club. So, yes, it’s an added value for me.
“There’s a page to rewrite. It’s a post-relegation season, so there’s something to rewrite.
“There’s a project to rebuild, and that’s what interested me.”
Speaking on the club as a whole, he continued: “I think we need to act in stages.
“We have a squad that has been rebuilt. Our goal is short-term and that is to start the season well.
“We are doing a coherent preparation in terms of work, we are creating things with a new squad. And the idea is to be ready for the first matchday, on August 8, and to make sure we start this season well.”
Well Caen did start the season well, winning 3-0 over Aubagne FC to top the National 1 third tier.
