To say it’s not going well for Kylian Mbappe and the rest of his family at Caen would be an understatment.
The French side were relegated from Ligue 2 down to the semi-pro National 1 with games to spare, losing 3-0 against Martigues.
It marked their first exit from professional French football since 1984, and came in the Mbappe family’s first season as they took over in September 2024.
Banners were unfurled criticising the owners and multiple players panned the instability from their first transfer window.
Midfielder Yann M’Vila has now joined in and is by far their most famous player with his 22 France caps.
Hammered 4-0 by Lorient after already being relegated, he said: “We’re not going to lie to ourselves, we’re where we belong.
“We’ve had a chaotic season, a s**ty season. A club like Caen that comes last in Ligue 2, it’s because the players are s**t.
“We have no determination. And when you have neither football nor determination, you’re in your place, that’s all. You go down to the National and you shut your mouth.
“The least we can do at that moment is apologize. Because, you know, I saw people crying, people who were really very upset.
“It really bothers me. I’ll have that on my conscience for the rest of my life. I’m part of the team that took Caen down to the National.”
