Karim Benzema has withdrawn himself from selection at Al Ittihad in yet another blow for Sergio Conceicao’s side.
Last season’s Saudi Pro League champions are currently down in sixth and are already facing stories that N’Golo Kante is attempting to leave in order to secure a France World Cup spot.
Now L’Equipe add that Benzema has stepped away from the team over a ‘disrespectful’ and ‘insulting’ contract offer that would ‘amount to playing for free’.
Benzema is Ittihad’s captain and becomes a free agent in the summer, while they’re are just five days left in the January transfer window.
Ittihad are also powerless to do anything about the situation, with Benzema’s contract negotated by the league itself and director of football Michael Emenalo.
