Spanish winger Gerard Deulofeu has announced he will be returning to football two-and-a-half years after his last match.
The Barcelona product, who starred in the Premier League for Watford and Everton, suffered an ACL knee injury and his cartilage became infected in January 2023.
The 31-year-old was present for PSG’s Super Cup win over Tottenham in Udine, the home of his last club Udinese.
Speaking to Sky Italia, he said: “Let’s see if I can play again. I’m still young.
“Luckily, I know that the Pozzo family – owners of Udinese – are waiting for me.
“They allow me to enjoy the excitement of being with my teammates in the locker room, in the stadium… Without a doubt, the future would pass through Udine.
“I am an emotional and passionate person. And when you see that a family is waiting for you and gives you this affection, I don’t see any other place to celebrate your return.”
He added: “I miss everything. The locker room, the post-match interviews…
“I’m fine, I’m improving every month, but it’s going slowly. I still don’t feel confident on the field.
“I’m preparing everything to try to play again. Everything is going too slowly. The cartilage is healing calmly.”
