Red Bull’s signing of Jurgen Klopp as their new head of football has shocked the world of football, but not one man at the top of the organisation.
Helmut Marko, who is effectively Red Bull Racing’s no.2 in Formula 1, has revealed that the deal was agreed back in 2022.
Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz was said to have agreed the deal in September 2022 before his death a month later at the age of 78.
It’s also reported that Klopp, who left Liverpool in May, turned down coaching offers this summer ahead of joining Red Bull on January 1.
Commenting on the revalation, Marko said: “It’s unbelievable how such a mega deal could remain secret for so long.
“In Formula 1, that would never have been possible.”
