The Dutch football association [KNVB] has passed on the suspension of former Ajax director Marc Overmars to the world football association FIFA, a spokesperson confirmed.
More than two weeks ago, Overmars was given a two-year suspension by the Sports Jurisdiction Institute (ISR), of which one year was conditional, for transgressive behavior during his time at Ajax.
The former left winger was technical director for the Amsterdam team at the time.
“As the KNVB, we are obliged to report this suspension to FIFA in the context of international guidelines. FIFA will then make its own assessment,” the spokeswoman said.
It is now up to FIFA’s disciplinary committee to determine whether Overmars’ national suspension will be converted into a global one.
Overmars, who has the option to appeal the ruling, is currently technical director at Belgian club Antwerp.
He has a contract there until 2026.
