Dirk Kuyt’s position as Beerschot coach looks in jeopardy, but his agent may have done him a favour.
The former Liverpool and Netherlands forward was the club’s hero last season as he got them promoted to the Belgian Pro League, but this term has been a disaster.
After an opening day 0-0 draw to OH Leuven, Kuyt has been on an eight-game losing run, including a 5-0 humiliation against city rivals Royal Antwerp last time out.
That match was called off in the closing stages due to fan protests, and despite patience running out with Kuyt, he may well stay a little longer.
Het Laatste Nieuws report that Kuyt will receive a €1million payout if he’s sacked, something Beerschot can’t quite afford, while their multi-club owners are known to give coaches time.
Nevertheless, there will be a meeting on Monday to decide his future ahead of the international break, with another defeat for Kuyt against Westerlo perhaps pushing the club to pay for him to go.
