With the risk of Ralf Rangnick heading back to the Bundesliga, Austria’s biggest voice has launched an incredible defence.
The national team coach is rumoured to be considering leaving the dugout to switch back to an executive role at Borussia Dortmund or Bayern Munich.
The news comes amid a fallout with the Austrian FA [OFB] and the organisations president and vice president have since both publicly attacked him.
Responding to those comments, Austria’s captain, Real Madrid megastar David Alaba, has now offered a robust response.
“We stand for solidarity and unity,” he began. “And we have absolutely no understanding of our team manager being attacked like this from within his own ranks. That’s not good for our team and our entire association.
“Anyone who now says, ‘We should sit back and change our style of play’, they have no idea about football.
“We want and must play exactly the way our team manager lets us play in order to be successful. I am absolutely certain that together we are on the right path.
“The coach isn’t difficult at all. He tries to do everything he can to ensure that Austrian football develops positively.
“If that’s difficult, then I hope the new president will be difficult too.”
