Nuri Sahin has lost the Borussia Dortmund dressing room thanks to one key moment, according to Didi Hamann.
The rookie BVB coach continued his terrible away form with back-to-back defeats for the first time, losing to Real Madrid and then Augsburg.
Dortmund are now well out of the Bundesliga title picture, and look miles short of the team that reached last season’s Champions League final under Edin Terzic.
The pressure is mounting on Sahin, and Sky pundit Hamann thinks everything stemmed from Marcel Sabitzer undermining the coach by criticising his tactics.
“I missed the club publicly standing behind the coach, telling Sabitzer: This is not acceptable,” he began.
“If you tell the coach publicly where you want to play, then you undermine the coach’s authority.
“With a different and more experienced coach he would not have allowed that to happen – that is exactly the point, there is more to leading a team or a club than tactics.”
He continued: “The team no longer wanted Terzic, now the next coach is coming. I have the feeling that some players don’t want this coach.”
“The players have been given far too much power. The club still decides who is the coach. They all have to submit to them.”
When asked which players could be impacting management, he finished: “I don’t know who it is. I have a suspicion, but it’s not my place to say.”
